Packing guide for Nyerere National Park
What to pack for your safari holiday
A safari at Porini Camp is all about reconnecting with nature while travelling light and comfortably. Life in the bush is relaxed, practical, and focused on the experience rather than formal dress codes. We recommend packing minimally and thoughtfully, especially as access to camp is usually via bush plane with strict luggage limitations.
What to pack for Nyerere national park?
For the warm climate of Nyerere National Park, we recommend lightweight and breathable clothing in neutral safari tones such as beige, khaki, olive, or sand. Long-sleeved shirts are ideal for sun protection and cooler evenings, while lightweight trousers and shorts are perfect during the day. Early morning game drives can occasionally feel cool, so a light jacket or warm layer is advisable. Comfortable walking shoes or boots are essential, especially for walking safaris, while sandals or lighter shoes are ideal around camp. Don’t forget sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, personal medication, and camera equipment.
As access to Porini Camp is usually via bush plane, luggage is limited to 15 kg (33 lbs) per person including hand luggage. Soft-sided duffel bags are strongly recommended, while hard-shell suitcases are generally not permitted. We therefore encourage guests to pack lightly and practically.
Porini Camp is well equipped with many essential amenities, so there is no need to overpack. Fishing equipment from DAIWA and Madcat is available at camp, although guests are more than welcome to bring their own tackle within the bush plane luggage limits. We are always happy to assist with planning and equipment arrangements prior to arrival.
