AT THE LODGE

At the lodge facilities, there are no special clothing requirements—feel free to wear whatever makes you comfortable. However, we do recommend bringing swimwear, as our inviting pool is perfect for a refreshing dip after a day of adventure.

In the evening hours, we suggest using insect repellent to keep mosquitoes and other bugs at bay while you relax and enjoy the sounds of the African night

AT THE PROPERTY

When moving across the property, whether it’s from the main lodge to your luxury tent or exploring the beautiful grounds, it’s important to dress appropriately for both comfort and safety. Sturdy, closed-toed shoes or boots are highly recommended, as you may walk on uneven terrain. Given the lodge's location in a prime game corridor, you could encounter wildlife, including potentially dangerous animals. Light, neutral-colored clothing such as beige, khaki, or dark green is ideal to blend in with the surroundings. Bright colors should be avoided, as they might attract attention from wildlife. Additionally, long-sleeved shirts and pants are recommended for added protection against the elements and insects during the evening hours.

For your safety, you’ll always be accompanied by a member of our trained staff when moving between the tents or across the property

ON A GAME DRIVE

For a game drive at Wanyamapori, wear light, breathable clothing in neutral colors like beige, khaki, or dark green to blend with nature. Long sleeves and pants offer protection from the sun and insects. Sturdy, closed-toed shoes or boots are essential for getting in and out of the vehicle. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent in the evening. This will keep you comfortable and protected while enjoying the wildlife adventure.

ON A WALKING SAFARI

For  a walking safari the same dresscode as on a game drive comes to account. however, kindly note that wearing of boots is mandatory.

Each season has its own wonders to discover.

GREEN SEASON NOVEMBER - APRIL

High:27°C / 81°F Low:15°C / 59°F Rainfall:72.5MM / 2.85IN

The landscape bursts into lush greenery, and newborn animals take their first steps. Migratory birds arrive, painting the sky with color. Afternoon rains bring dramatic sunsets that light up the savanna.

DRY SEASON JULY - OCTOBER

High:28°C / 82°F Low:17°C / 63°F Rainfall:70MM / 0.8IN

Wildlife gathers around our waterholes, offering incredible game viewing right from your veranda. The golden grasslands stretch endlessly, while cooler, starry nights create the perfect atmosphere for relaxing around the campfire.

TRANSITION MONTHS JUNE & NOVEMBER

High:25.5°C / 78°F Low:18°C / 53°F Rainfall:205MM / 8.08IN

Between the rains and the dry season, the wilderness transforms. Wildflowers bloom, predator action intensifies, and each sunrise feels like a masterpiece.

PEAK OF RAINY SEASON MAY

High:25.5°C / 78°F Low:18°C / 53°F Rainfall: Way too much

During the peak of the rainy season, the Mekenge River swells with rushing water, transforming the landscape into a wild and untamed paradise. As nature takes over, access to the camp becomes impossible, and Wanyamapori temporarily surrenders to the rhythm of the wilderness. During this time, the camp rests under the spell of the rains, waiting to welcome guests once the skies clear and the adventure begins again.

OUR SEASONS

EAST AFRICA`S LAST GREAT WILDERNESS

The Selous ecosystem and Nyerere National Park, where our exciting game drives take place, are among the best safari destinations in the world. Unlike the more famous parks in northern Tanzania, there is no mass tourism here. The vast size of the park allows for a private and undisturbed game-viewing experience, where animals behave in a truly natural way.

This is exactly what Wanyamapori offers—safari experiences for those who deeply appreciate the value of nature. It is perfect for travelers seeking untouched wilderness, authentic encounters with wildlife, and a profound connection to the natural world. Ideal for those who prefer serenity over crowds, Wanyamapori focuses on conservation-driven, sustainable tourism, ensuring that the beauty of this extraordinary ecosystem remains unspoiled for generations to come.

Visa regulations

Visitors to Tanzania are generally required to obtain a visa, which can be acquired online (e-visa) or upon arrival, depending on their nationality—please check current regulations before traveling.

Health & Safety at Wanyamapori

At Wanyamapori, your well-being is important to us. Our lodge is equipped with a basic medical kit stocked with standard medications to treat common ailments and provide initial care. While we are well-prepared to administer first aid, please note that medical facilities and access to doctors in remote areas of Tanzania can be limited or unavailable. Therefore, we strongly recommend that guests arrange a Flying Doctors insurance policy, which provides rapid emergency evacuation if needed.

Malaria prophylaxis is advisable and should be discussed with your doctor prior to travel. Due to our lodge’s location—away from the Rufiji River and lake regions—mosquito exposure is typically lower than in those more humid areas. Nonetheless, preventive measures such as mosquito repellent, protective clothing in the evenings, and prophylactic medication remain important.

While East Africa remains one of the more remote and wild destinations in the world, with the right preparation, your stay will be both safe and unforgettable.

Rain is a part of nature’s rhythm, but there’s no need to worry—it comes in short, intense bursts, usually in the early morning hours. By the time the sun rises over the savanna, the skies clear, and the land glows with fresh energy. The rain cools the air, enhances the scents of the wild, and makes the landscape even more breathtaking. So embrace the moment, listen to the raindrops, and enjoy the magic—because soon, the adventure continues under the warm African sun.
